Sean Murphy is a Certified Environmental Professional who brings twenty years of experience in environmental permitting, development and project management. He joins WEST as a Senior Regulatory Specialist who will be working out of his home in Portland, Maine. Initially, Sean will focus on leading our environmental planning and permitting services to the solar industry. Over his career, Sean has been involved in all aspects of renewable energy development, from site prospecting and initial due diligence through permitting, engineering, construction, and post-construction compliance.
Sean provides technical and strategic expertise and agency consultation support, focusing on integrating environmental, engineering, and regulatory experts to respond to complex issues. He has worked on a wide variety of energy projects, including solar, wind, hydropower, tidal, wave and transmission lines. Clients often look to Sean to guide them efficiently through federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Prior to joining WEST, Sean served as Office Practice Leader for TRC’s offices in Maine and as a Manager of Regulatory Services for HDR. In his roles with these companies he supervised multiple project managers, wrote technical documents, provided quality control/assurance for all proposals and reports, and mentored junior staff. Sean received a Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Maine.
