Ashley Matteson

Biologist

Ashley Matteson joined WEST in 2017 as a Biologist. Ashley began working with bats as an undergraduate at Central College where she received her B.A. in Biology in 2011. She went on to pursue her graduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, graduating in 2013. Her graduate research focused on how ultrasound transmission was impacted by intercropping biofuels in managed pine plantations. Since graduating Ashley has worked on a variety of bat research projects including the development, implementation, supervision of long term, state-wide and regional acoustic bat monitoring efforts in North Carolina and Missouri, and presence/absence mist-netting surveys in Iowa, North Carolina, and Missouri. She has experience with qualitative analysis of bat echolocation calls and the identification of endangered and threatened species including Indiana, Gray, and Northern long-eared bats.

At WEST, Ashley will be working on a variety of bat and avian surveys, including pre and post-construction data collection. She will also be supervising field crews, analyzing acoustic data, managing data, and writing reports.
