US Forest Service

WEST brings together an experienced team of ecologists and biometricians who have worked on a range of projects for the US Forest Service (USFS) as well as on issues pertinent to forest management. We have designed and conducted a wide variety of field surveys for forest-dependent/dwelling species and have efficiently analyzed and interpreted the data associated with such surveys.

Our staff members are trained by the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Section 7 Consultation to coordinate with the USFS and other agencies under the Department of Agriculture. WEST has developed Habitat Conservation Plans for Forest Management Plans, and WEST staff have worked to manage USFS natural resources for land acquisitions and land swaps in collaboration with other federal agencies. WEST professionals have extensive experience and on-the-ground working knowledge of listed species and sensitive forest resources as well as the permits, techniques, and equipment required to study protected and uncommon wildlife and plants. Our biologists are supported by our expert geographic information systems staff in the design and analysis of projects that incorporate large sets of spatial data.
