Wendy Tidhar has worked fulltime for WEST as a Wildlife Biologist since 2007. Prior to joining WEST she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA where she taught Animal Physiology (BIOL 432) and conducted and supervised research on photo-responsive and non-photo-responsive lines of white-footed mice. Wendy received her B.Sc. (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1996; and received her Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 2003. The main focus of Wendy's research has been within the field of ecological physiology, in particular the energetic and hormonal responses of rodents to changes in their environment (e.g. predation risk, photoperiod, and diet). She has authored and co-authored scientific publications within this field. Wendy has previously worked for the University of Chicago, USGS Colorado Plateau Research Station, Macaulay Land-Use Research Institute (UK), Rowett Research Institute (UK), HawkWatch International, and Arizona Game and Fish Department; conducting research and collecting data on a range of mammals and raptor species.
Her current work with WEST is predominantly on wind-energy projects carrying out site visits, coordination pre-construction surveys, and writing reports including T&E biological assessments. Though previously she has conducted plant and wildlife surveys for natural gas pipeline projects: including pygmy rabbit surveys, mountain plover surveys, black-footed ferret surveys, raptor nest surveys, raptor winter roost monitoring, aerial sage-grouse lek surveys, rare plant, noxious weeds and water-body surveys, habitat mapping for prairie dogs and mountain plovers.
Wendy lives in Vermont with her husband David and dogs Sally and Hamish, where she enjoys crafts and outdoor recreation.
