Terri Thorn joined WEST's Bismarck, North Dakota staff as a Wildlife Biologist in 2008. He spent the previous 11 years working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a Wildlife Biologist/GIS Specialist. His experiences there included critical habitat mapping for Canada lynx and piping plovers, contaminant pathway modeling, waterfowl surveys, landscape level habitat mapping using aerial photography and satellite imagery, and endangered fish population monitoring. Prior to this, he was a Waterfowl Biologist with the Duck's Unlimited Institute for Wetlands and Waterfowl Research in Canada and conducted various research projects on waterfowl nesting, migration and wintering ecology. He received a Wildlife and Fisheries, B.S. degree from South Dakota State University in 1987 and a M.S. degree in Wildlife Science from New Mexico State University in 1991. He studied habitat use and feeding ecology of migratory cinnamon teal in central New Mexico for his thesis.
His current duties at WEST include wind farm, pre- and post- construction wildlife surveys, GIS support for various projects, and technical report writing.
He lives in Mandan, North Dakota with his wife and pets and spends his time hunting, fishing, carving decoys and gardening.
