Brian Heath

Wildlife Biologist

Brian Heath joined the WEST team as a Project Manager in 2011. He received a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University in 1987 and a M.S. in Zoology and Physiology from the University of Wyoming in 1994. Prior to joining WEST, Brian was a Principal Scientist with ARCADIS U.S., Inc. stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. His career path also included employment with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and Wyoming Game & Fish Department.

Brian’s primary focus at WEST includes providing environmental permitting support for upstream oil and gas projects. He has over 15 years of experience in assisting clients with ecological issues during exploration, development, and production of fluid minerals across the west. Mr. Heath experiences included conducting surveys for T & E species, raptors, prairie grouse, federally listed plants, sensitive species, and big game to support responsible energy development. Brian has helped clients develop site assessment programs to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to wildlife and important habitats within proposed development areas. Implementation of the program has resulted in siting facilities in areas where responsible development can occur while avoiding impacts to important habitats, minimizing disturbance to individuals or important seasonal habitats, and siting within areas where protective spatial or temporal restrictions do not affect proposed development.

Brian has been extensively involved in the greater sage-grouse in Wyoming and other western states since 1994. He has conducted radio-telemetry studies on greater sage-grouse to document productivity, survival, and seasonal habitat at use in Wyoming; worked with energy companies to ensure responsible oil and gas development in Sage-Grouse Core Population Areas; and serves on a team of professionals dedicated to the restoration and enhancement of greater sage-grouse habitats within a State of Wyoming Core Population Area. Brian also has direct project experience with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permitting, preparation of Environmental Assessments, geophysical seismic project environmental resource surveys, abandoned mine reclamation environmental assessments, and wind energy pre-construction resource surveys.
