Andy Merrill joined WEST in October 2009 as a Statistician in the Cheyenne office. Andy received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Before coming to work for WEST he worked as a Statistical Consultant for Micro-Bio Systems. He has also worked as a UMEP Project Manager for Utah State University, was a Mathematics Instructor for Bridgerland Applied Technology College and was also a Mathematics Educator for the Weber School District in South Weber Utah.
His specialty areas include wind resource area fatality estimation, spatial statistics, random forests, classification and regression trees, non-parametric regression methods, variable importance measures, and multivariate data analysis. Andy's work for WEST has included study design and/or analysis of multiple wind energy resource areas throughout the U.S. He has conducted pre-construction avian use and bat activity estimation, post-construction fatality estimation, grassland bird displacement studies, golden eagle collision risk modeling, golden eagle flight path analysis, resource selection analysis, utilization density estimation and studies evaluating the effects of wind turbine generator cut-in speed adjustments.
